 Amherst Island Ferry

Mask/Face Covering Requirements

Masks/face coverings are required for all walk on traffic and open air vehicles such as bicycles, motorcycles , convertible, etc aboard the Amherst Island Ferry. Thank you for your cooperation.

Transport Canada asking all travellers to be in possession of a removable face covering while on board

To reduce the spread of COVID-19, Transport Canada is asking all travellers to be in possession of a removable face covering large enough to cover their mouth and nose while on board passenger vessels and ferries.

All walk-on passengers should have a non-medical mask or face covering large enough to cover their mouth and nose in the event they are unable to maintain physical distancing of at least two metres from other people during their voyage.

During the voyage, you could be asked to wear a face covering that covers your mouth and nose when you are outside your vehicle and in situations where you cannot maintain two metres of physical separation.

All passengers are encouraged to stay in their vehicles while on the ferry and limit contact with others as much as possible. Passengers are advised that they may be screened in accordance with Transport Canada’s COVID-19 screening requirements. This will involve answering a few simple questions to which you must answer truthfully.

Washrooms Aboard Amherst Island Ferry Closed to Public

Effective April 10th, the washrooms aboard the Amherst Island Ferry are closed to public access. These measures are being put in place to ensure the safety of our passengers and crew.  Earlier this week, the Amherst Island Ferry implemented  additional measures at the direction of Transport Canada.

Transport Canada Safety Measures aboard Amherst Island Ferry

The following safety measures for passenger vessels were announced by Transport Canada on April 5.

Please be advised that effective Monday, April 6th the Amherst Island Ferry Service will be operating with a reduced passenger limit of 142 (50%) in response to COVID-19 physical distancing requirements. Access to passenger lounges are restricted to walk-on passengers.

All passengers are encouraged to stay in their vehicles while on the ferry and limit contact with others as much as possible. Passengers are advised that they may be screened in accordance with Transport Canada’s COVID-19 screening requirements. This will involve answering a few simple questions to which you must answer truthfully.

Passengers who are ill or appear to be ill will not be permitted to board the ferry. If a passenger is ill and traveling to get medical attention please notify us in advance of boarding.  Ferry users are asked to limit their travel to essential needs only.

Nonessential travel to Amherst Island is strongly discouraged. Please help keep our staff, ferry crew and communities healthy.   The Amherst Island Ferry Service has implemented increased cleaning on board the ferry.

 Kingston Transit

Beginning August 31, Kingston Transit to increase service, resume front-door boarding and fare collection

The #10 bus serving riders from Amherstview - Kingston will be returning to pre-pandemic schedules. There are minor adjustments to arrival and departure times on some routes. Updated schedules are available at KingstonTransit.ca/Schedules and on Google Maps, TransitApp or Moovit app.

Front door boarding and fare collection

Front-door boarding and fare collection on all Kingston Transit buses will resume starting Aug. 31. Passengers will be required to enter through the front door and exit through the rear door, if possible, to support physical distancing measures and ensure one-way flow. Passengers with disabilities, strollers, carts, or other needs will still be permitted to exit using the front door.

Visit KingstonTransit.ca to learn more about the different fares and passes available.

Face coverings

Face coverings are required when riding Kingston Transit. Riders are reminded to keep their face covering on during the entire trip. Please be kind and remember that not all disabilities and medical conditions are visible, and some riders may not be able to wear a face covering.

As transit ridership increases, there may be occasions where physical distancing will not be possible. KFL&A Public Health has indicated that buses can operate at regular capacity with the use of face coverings and other measures, including enhanced cleaning and hand hygiene.
