On January 3rdThe Province of Ontario announced that it will return to a modified version of Step Two of the Roadmap to Reopen. The move to Step Two will take effect as of January 5, 2022 at 12:01 a.m. with enhanced measures in place for at least 21 days (until January 26, 2022) subject to trends in public health and our health system. In accordance with the new restrictions, Loyalist Township will be extending facility closures while maintaining the delivery of essential services. 

The following facilities remain closed until at least Jan. 26, 2022: 

  • Administration Office – 263 Main Street, Odessa 

  • Amherstview Community Hall – 177 Upper Park Road, Amherstview 

  • Economic Growth & Community Development Services Office -18 Manitou Crescent West, Amherstview 

  • Loyalist Township Fire Stations 

  • Leisure & Activity Centre – 177 Upper Park Road, Amherstview 

  • W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre – 322 Amherst Drive, Amherstview 

Registrations and bookings for open skate, ice rentals and winter programming are suspended temporarily until at least January 26, 2022, while we assess the impact of the new regulations. 

Essential services continue: 

 Emergency Services 
First responders will continue to respond to 911 calls. Please wear a mask and keep your distance until COVID-19 screening is complete. 
 Kingston Area Recycling Centre 
The Kingston Area Recycling Centre (KARC) remains open Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can continue to drop-off yard waste Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. 
 Parks and Outdoor Amenities 
Loyalist Township parks remain open. Remember to keep your distance and wear a mask if you cannot maintain a two-metre distance while outdoors. If local parks are busy you may want to leave and return later to avoid any unnecessary contact with people outside of your household. Wash or sanitize your hands often. 
 Planning and Building Permit Applications 
Consultations can be conducted by phone or email. Applications can be submitted by email, postal mail, or dropped off at one of the Township's drop box locations. To avoid delays, during regular business hours (Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.), applications and payments can also be placed in the drop box in the front foyer at 18 Manitou Cres West without an appointment. Payments can only be made by cheque or bank draft. 
 Public Transit
The #10 bus serving Amherstview to Kingston, and the Amherst Island Ferry are running for essential travel. Electronic payment is recommended when using the Amherst Island Ferry.  Please limit ferry travel to essential trips only.
 Purchase of Dog Tags and Garbage Bag Tags 
Dog Tags and Garbage Bag Tags can be purchased online via the Township website or from local distributors. 
 Reporting Concerns 
Staff are responding to complaints and reported concerns – click here to report a non-urgent issue. For after-hours emergencies involving roads, water/sewer service, or a Township facility call 613-507-3069
 Waste Collection 
 Waste collection continues normally, and Township landfills remains open.

Stay Safe – Follow Public Health Measures: 

KFL&A Public Health reminds residents that the best way for individuals to protect themselves against the new Omicron variant of concern is to: 

  • Get fully vaccinated and seek a third dose when eligible. 
  • Screen for symptoms of COVID-19 daily, stay home, isolate, and get tested even if symptoms are mild. 
  • Avoid social gatherings and limit visiting others or having guests over. 
  • Stay 2 metres apart from people you do not live with and wear a mask in indoor spaces. 
  • Consider curbside pick-up, delivery, or alternate hours for shopping, especially if you are at a higher risk for illness. 
  • Clean your hands frequently.
