Starting in mid-July, work will begin on several pedestrian crossovers on Kildare Ave. and Speers Blvd.  The crossovers are being installed to create a safer walking environment for residents and provide more places to safely cross the streets.

What are we installing?

Five pedestrian crossovers will be created on Speers Blvd. and two crossovers on Kildare Ave. A pedestrian crossover is a designated crossing area that allows you to safely cross the road and where vehicles must yield to the pedestrian. Pedestrian crossovers have specific pavement markings and crossing signs.

When will installation take place?

Watch for the new Pedestrian Crossing road markings and signs going up this summer.

How to use the new crossovers

Five pedestrian crossovers will be created on Speers Blvd. and two crossovers on Kildare Ave. A pedestrian crossover is a designated crossing area that allows you to safely cross the road and where vehicles must yield to the pedestrian. Pedestrian crossovers have specific pavement markings and crossing signs.

Pedestrians

  • Cross only when traffic has come to a complete stop

  • Make eye contact with the driver

  • Indicate you want to cross before entering the crossover

Motorists and Cyclists

  • Watch for pedestrians at the new crossovers and be prepared to stop

  • Only proceed after pedestrians have cleared the entire road and reach the sidewalk

  • Cyclists using the crossover must dismount and walk the bicycle over the road

  • It is illegal to pass another vehicle within 30 meters of the crossover
