Community Gardens Consultation

Background

Loyalist Township’s Strategic Plan 2024-2027 highlights community gardens as an important part of building strong, healthy, and connected communities. Under the Strong Communities priority, the Township commits to promoting food security and facilitating the development of community gardens in all communities, recognizing their role in supporting local food access, social connection, and overall well‑being.

Benefits of Community Gardens

Community gardens are a collaborative initiative, aligned with broader goals of enhancing quality of life, fostering inclusive and welcoming neighbourhoods, and strengthening partnerships across community groups and organizations. Their development supports the Township’s emphasis on environmental sustainability, local identity, and accessible recreation opportunities.

Funding

Loyalist Township was successful in receiving community grant funding during intake 1 in February 2026. This funding will enable the Township to initiate the development of one community garden project in 2026.
