Historic Fairfield Gutzeit House Celebrates Grand Reopening with Free Outdoor Events August 7 & 8  

Bath, ON – Loyalist Township is thrilled to announce the Grand Reopening Celebration of the Fairfield Gutzeit House, one of Bath’s most treasured heritage sites, with two vibrant community events on August 7 and 8, 2025. After an extensive restoration project, this historic home, now Museum, is ready to welcome visitors with a unique blend of music, culture, and family-friendly fun—all set on the beautiful lakeside grounds of the Fairfield property. 

August 7: Music in the Park with Quartessence 

Time: 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. 
House Tours: 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. (self-guided) 
Location: Fairfield Gutzeit House, 341 Main Street, Bath 
Cost: FREE 
What to bring: Lawn chair or blanket 

Celebrate the reopening of this iconic heritage site with a magical evening concert on the lawn, the first performance at the house since its restoration. Bring your blanket or chair and settle in for a captivating string quartet performance by Quartessence. Known for their infectious energy and genre-blending style, Quartessence brings together fiddle tunes, sizzling tangos, timeless classics, and jazz to create a concert experience that delights all ages. 

The Fairfield Gutzeit House will be open from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for self-guided tours, giving visitors a glimpse inside this restored 18th-century gem before the music begins. 

August 8: Puppet Show in the Park 

Time: 2:00 p.m. (Puppet Show) 
Cost: FREE 
What to bring: Lawn chair or blanket 

Families are invited to return on Friday, August 8 for a whimsical puppet show held in the outdoor park space at the Fairfield Gutzeit House. This enchanting performance celebrates the joy of outdoor play and encourages kids to find balance in their screen-filled lives. It’s perfect for little ones and promises laughs, magic, and meaningful moments under the trees. 

Make a full day of it! Start your morning at the Bath Museum (just a short walk away) where children can participate in our Exploration Day series with a free stop-motion animation activity hosted by Peggy Collins, a local author and illustrator. Grab lunch in the village of Bath, then head to the Fairfield Gutzeit House for the afternoon puppet performance. 

 About the Fairfield Gutzeit House 

Built in 1796, the Fairfield Gutzeit House is one of Ontario’s oldest Georgian-style homes and a landmark of Loyalist heritage. Recently restored through Loyalist Township’s ambitious heritage project—with funding support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation—the house is once again open for tours, programming, and public events. 

Tours 

Summer tours of the Fairfield Gutzeit House will continue Thursday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. until August 24, 2025. Admission is $3 for adults and seniors, and free for children 12 and under.
