Sewer Line Rapid Assessments

Loyalist Township will be conducting Sewer Line Rapid Assessments in select areas throughout September 2026 as part of the Township’s ongoing sanitary sewer maintenance program.

What is a Sewer Line Rapid Assessment?

Sewer Line Rapid Assessment Tool (SL-RAT) uses sound wave technology to assess conditions within sanitary sewer pipes between two maintenance holes. This information helps Township staff plan preventative maintenance before potential issues develop.

What Might Residents Notice?

The assessment is completed from maintenance holes along the roadway and each test only takes a short period of time.

While the contracted crews are working in your neighbourhood, you may notice:

• Township staff and/or contractors working around maintenance holes.
• Equipment temporarily positioned at two nearby maintenance holes while a sewer segment is tested.
• Short periods of unusual sounds or tones coming from maintenance holes or the sewer system. These sounds are part of the acoustic testing process and are expected.

Residents do not need to provide access to their homes for this assessment, and no interruption to sanitary sewer service is anticipated.

No action is required from residents.

Why is the Township Conducting These Assessments?

Regular assessments are an important part of preventative infrastructure maintenance. The information collected will help the Township better understand conditions within the sanitary sewer system, prioritize cleaning and maintenance, and address areas that may need attention.

By proactively assessing our infrastructure, we can make informed maintenance decisions and help keep the sanitary sewer system operating efficiently and reliably.

When and Where Will Testing Take Place?

Testing is expected to take place September 21, 2026 until September 25, 2026 in select areas of Loyalist Township.
