Emergency Procedures

The following procedures should be followed in the event of an emergency taking place at a recreation facility in Loyalist Township:

Fire emergency procedures

 

In case of a fire

  1. Trigger the fire alarm by activating the closest fire alarm pull station

  2. Call 9-1-1; never assume this has been done

  3. Evacuate the facility using the closest exit and proceed to the assembly area adjacent the soccer field. The area is marked with signage.

  4. Keep access ways and roadways clear
  5. Await further direction from Township staff or fire personnel

  6. If an 'All Clear' signal is given, re-enter the facility through the main entrance.

When you hear fire alarm

  1. Evacuate the facility using the closest exit and proceed to the assembly area adjacent the soccer field. The area is marked with signage.

  2. Keep access ways and roadways clear

  3. Await further direction from Township staff or fire personnel

  4. If an 'All Clear' signal is given, re-enter the building through the main entrance.

Additional information

  • It is mandatory for Township facilities to be evacuated during any fire alarm

  • Report all fires, no matter how small, to Township staff.

  • Report the smell of smoke of undetermined origin to Township staff

  • Do not put yourself in danger.  Only use a fire extinguisher if you have been trained to do so.

  • Familiarize yourself with the location of fire exits and fire extinguishers in your area

  • If safe to do so, any participants wearing ice skates should remove their skates before exiting the facility.

Ammonia emergency procedures

In case of an ammonia leak

  1. The alarm bell will sound, and red lights outside of the compressor room will be activated.

  2. Township staff will determine if an evacuation is required and will activate the fire alarm

  3. Evacuate the facility using the closest exit and proceed to the assembly area adjacent the soccer field.  The area is marked with signage.

  4. Keep access ways and roadways clear

  5. Await further direction from Township staff or fire personnel

  6. If an 'All Clear' signal is given, re-enter the facility through the main entrance.

Leisure & Activity Centre
