Freedom of Information Requests
The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) requires municipal institutions to protect the privacy of individuals personal information that is held by municipal government. Individuals have the right to access certain records of information, including one's own personal information. The Act was created to ensure transparency by providing as much information as possible to the public while ensuring their personal privacy is protected.
Making a request
Request for records held by Loyalist Township can be made to the Municipal Clerk. Please call 613-386-7351, ext. 121#, or email clerk@loyalist.ca to inquire about whether a formal request is necessary.
If you require a formal Freedom of Information Request, you must complete an application and pay a non-refundable application fee of $5.00 (additional fees may be required).
Request should be as specific as possible. This will assist us with getting the information you are looking for and will limit the fees you will be charged.
What happens next
Results are provided to applicants within 30 days (unless many records are being requested, which requires an extensive search or consultation with a third party). If an extension is required, you will be notified. Once the records are ready and all fees have been paid, the records will be mailed to you or they can be picked up at the Odessa Municipal Office located at 263 Main Street, Odessa.
Appeals
MFIPPA allows applicants to appeal decisions about access to records made by the municipality. You can file an appeal by submitting an appeal form within 30 days after you receive the notice of decision.
