What is an Additional Residential Units (ARU)?
An additional residential unit (ARU) could be in the form of an
additional internal fully contained unit within a single detached, semi-detached, or townhome or an extension of these existing dwellings. Alternatively, an ARU could also be an additional external unit (i.e. located in an accessory building or structure) on properties with an existing primary dwelling where the property owners reside. All ARUs are subject to planning, servicing and zoning requirements.
ARU Grant Opportunity
Up to 20% of construction costs for a separate and self-contained dwelling unit that is either within or attached to a principal dwelling or within a detached accessory building or structure on the same lot as the principal dwelling (i.e. where the owner resides).
Maximum Grant Limits:
- Internal/attached ARUs is $12,500 per unit
- Accessory Structure (not attached) $25,000 per ARU.
General Eligibility
All rental units applying for CIP incentives must be:
- Built within Loyalist Township on land owned by the applicant (or their agent);
- Maintained as rental units for 15 years; and,
- Be issued a Building Permit from the Township by Decemeber 1, 2027
