(Friday, November 10, 2023 – Amherstview, ON) On Saturday, November 25th, Loyalist Township will be hosting the 21st annual Light Up the Season community event.

Loyalist Township invites you to join us on November 25th from 3:00 - 5:00 pm at Fairfield Park, 4574 Bath Road, Amherstview to kick off the holiday season with our community.

The event will include wagon rides, milk & cookies and hot chocolate, marshmallow roasting, live music, ornament making, and a visit from Santa and his reindeer. Guests are encouraged to park at the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre and catch the free shuttle, which runs every 15 minutes. The shuttle service will begin at 2:45 pm. Parking on site is limited and reserved for accessibility. Trees in Fairfield Park will be adorned with lights, which will be turned on for the first time on November 25th at Light up the Season and will be lit nightly until the beginning of February.

All activities will be free of charge thanks to the generous support of sponsors, including Ontario Power Generation, Stock Transportation, Stage One Real Estate Team, Amherstview Foodland, Amherstview Lions Club and the L&A County Dairy Association.

The most cherished memories of the holidays are the traditions we share with our family, friends, and neighbours. Twenty-one years ago, a local community group came up with the idea of decorating two little trees at the Fairfield House, one with white lights and the other with colored. With lots of helping hands this idea grew into Light Up the Season, an event for the entire community to gather and enjoy an evening of old-fashioned holiday spirit.

In addition to Light up the Season, Loyalist Township will install Community Trees at four additional Heritage locations throughout Loyalist Township. Schools, families, and organizations are invited to make decorations and add them to the trees. Trees are at the Bath Museum, Centennial Park North beside the gazebo, Babcock Mill, and Neilson Store Museum. We hope residents enjoy visiting these sites throughout December. Ornament supply kits will be available for pickup at the Municipal office in Odessa, W.J. Henderson in Amherstview and the Neilson Store Museum on Amherst Island.
