Bath, ON – On Thursday, local MPP Ric Bresee met with representatives from Loyalist Township to help break ground on the restoration of the historic Fairfield-Gutzeit House in Bath, Ontario. The House is receiving extensive interior and exterior refurbishment thanks in part to a $148,400 Capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).

“This investment by the Ontario Trillium Foundation to restore this important heritage building is great news for many in our community,” said Ric Bresee, MPP for Hastings-Lennox & Addington. “This restoration will revitalize and enable the Fairfield-Gutzeit House experience by improving safety and preserving this important piece of the Township’s history.”

The refurbishment is extensive, including interior and exterior work. The work to be completed includes, but is not limited to, chimneys, windows, gutters, wall cladding, repairs to all three porches, stone steps, cornice repairs, foundation, masonry, timber structure, painting, plaster repairs, landscaping, and property repairs.

“This Ontario Trillium Foundation grant will allow for critical restoration work to be completed on the Fairfield-Gutzeit House,” said Jim Hegadorn, Mayor of Loyalist Township. The house has been used as a gathering place for community celebrations for the last 50 years. The restoration will ensure that the house can be enjoyed by community members and visitors for years to come.”
