The Barr Homes Aquatic Centre is a state-of-the-art aquatic facility designed to deliver a variety of aquatic programming experiences.

Latham Lap Pool

The Latham Lap Pool is an 8-lane, 25-meter pool featuring starting blocks, a diving board, a video scoreboard sponsored by the William James Henderson Foundation, and a touchpad timing system. The pool ranges in depth from 1.1 meters in the shallow end to 3.2 meters in the deep end, making it suitable for lap swimming, competitive events, and aquatic programming.

Savage Family Leisure Pool

The Savage Family Leisure Pool is a separate warm-water leisure pool including features such as a water curtain, bubble jets, etc. The pool has a maximum depth of 1.4 metres.

Swimming Lessons & Leadership Programs 

Our swimming lesson programs are available for all ages and skill levels, ranging from Parent & Tot classes to adult lessons, private instruction, and aquatic leadership programs. These programs are structured as a series of weekly lessons, allowing participants to build their swimming skills, confidence, and water safety knowledge over the course of the session.

Registered programs have three fee categories:

  • Loyalist Township Residents,
  • City of Kingston Residents
  • Non-Residents

Non-resident fees are 20% higher than Resident and Kingston Resident rates, and registration opens 72 hours later.

Drop-In Swims: 

Drop-in swims are one-time programming options that allow participants to register for individual swim times based on their schedule. Participants are recommended to pre-register for each individual session they would like to attend.

We strongly recommend pre-registration for aquafit classes due to demand. Pre-registration is available for drop-in swims as well. If you are dropping-in for a fully pre-registered class or swim, you will be asked to wait 15 min. After the 15 min, if pre-registered participants haven't arrived, their spots will be made available for drop-ins to attend the class or swim.

Residents of Loyalist Township and the City of Kingston can pre-register one week in advance, while non-residents can register four days before the swim or class.

  • Children under 3: $0 

  • Children 3-10 yrs: $3.57 

  • Youth 11-18 yrs: $3.57 

  • Adults 18-54 yrs: $5.27 

  • Seniors 55 yrs+: $3.69 

  • Aquafit 15 yrs+: $10.30

We provide a general PDF schedule for both swims and aquafit classes; however, the schedules may be slightly different day to day for a variety of reasons.

We will post known cancellations in the red bar above this FAQ, share them on our social media, and post them on physical and digital signage within the W.J. Henderson Community Centre with as much notice as possible.

Unexpected cancellations may occur from time to time. For these cancellations, we will notify pre-registered participants as quickly as possible, post to our social media and update signage when possible. 

We apologize for any inconveniences caused by cancellations known and unexpected.

We currently have a 1 Month Aquafit Membership available for $51.56 (including HST). This membership is available for purchase at our Customer Service Desk or online through your account portal.

Through a funding agreement between Loyalist Township and the City of Kingston, City of Kingston residents receive the same registered program rates and registration access as Loyalist Township residents. This agreement helps support access to aquatic programming for residents of both municipalities.

Registered programs have three fee categories:

  • Resident
  • Kingston Resident
  • Non-Resident. Non-residents pay a fee that is 20% higher than the Resident rate and can register 72 hours after Resident and Kingston Resident registration opens.

City of Kingston residents are able to access registered aquatics programs at the same rates and registration timelines as Loyalist Township residents. For Kingston residents to have this level of access, our staff need to setup a free membership on your accounts.

If you have registered with us at any time since 2018, you do not need to do anything. We have already setup your accounts to have the new membership.

If you are registering for the first time, you must visit the W.J. Henderson Community Centre (322 Amherst Dr., Amherstview) to set up your account. You will be asked to provide proof of residency during setup. Acceptable proof of residency includes:

  • A valid Government-issued ID (e.g. driver's license, provincial ID) that lists your address
  • Dated within the last 12 months:
    • Property Tax Bill or assessment notice
    • Lease of Rental Agreement
  • Dated within the last 90 days:
    • Utility bill (water, electricity, gas, cable, internet, cellphone, telephone, or equivalent)
    • Mortgage statement
    • Rent receipt
    • Insurance policy (home or tenant)
    • Bank or credit card statement

If you do not take these steps first, you will only be able to register as a non-resident.

A "Wibit" is an inflatable obstacle. We have five different Wibits that connect together to make a super fun floating obstacle course. Folks ages 6+ are encourage to come give the course a try during one of our Wibit Public Swims held throughout the year!

Please note: Soap is not provided in the change room showers at the Barr Homes Aquatic Centre. If you would like to shower after your swim, please bring your own soap.

Patrons are not permitted to bring: 

  • water wings 

  • water guns/super soakers 

  • glass scuba masks 

  • boogie boards 

  • go-pros 

  • outside sports equipment 

  • mono-fins 

  • specialized scuba equipment 

  • personal large pool mats 

  • speakers 

  • glass water bottles 

Patrons are permitted to bring: 

  • Personal Flotation Devices (please refer to our Admission Standards for supervision ratios) 

  • Goggles (no glass lenses), swim caps, ear plugs, nose plugs 

  • Training fins, hand paddles, and training snorkles for lane swims only 

  • Aquafitness hand gloves 

  • Legally prescribed personal medications that may be required while at the pool  

  • Plastic or metal water bottles (no glass) 

  • Personal, in-water headphones 

  • Water/Aqua Shoes 

  • Permitted Swim Attire

    • Standard bathing attire 

    • Cultural bathing attire intended for swimming 

    • Rash guards 

    • Wet suits 

  • Unpermitted Swim Attire
    • Street clothes including underwear, baggy clothing, and thick heavy materials and fabrics 

General Hours for the Barr Homes Aquatic Centre

Monday to Friday: 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Saturday: 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Sunday: 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

 

Please note that these hours are subject to change based on programs, swims, and rentals.

There are transit stops conveniently located at the front entrance of the W.J. Henderson Community Centre. Riders can use self-serve trip planning tools, such as Transit and Google Maps, to pick your starting point and destination, and have your journey planned for you. 

Route 10 Service - The route 10 service, operated by Kingston Transit, runs between the W.J. Henderson Community Centre and Cataraqui Centre. 

Loyalist Link – The Loyalist Link transit service provides transportation from Odessa, via the 90A, and from Bath via the 90B. Each service operates on weekdays for a 1-hour loop during peak times.
