On February 14th, Loyalist Township staff presented a report to Council documenting building permit activity in the Township in 2021. The report highlights record levels of building activity within the Township.

According to the report, the cumulative total number of permits issued in 2021 was 462. This figure is a 30% increase over 2020 activity, and a 25% increase above the long-term average.

“I’m very proud of the work done not only by our Building Division in 2021 but also by our Planning and Engineering Divisions as just over 30% of the building permits issued are for new builds in urban areas and would have gone through development review and expansion of infrastructure to get to building permit issuance. Our entire team continued to meet unprecedented demand and provide uninterrupted service while balancing the challenges of the ongoing pandemic,” stated MJ Merritt, Director of Economic Growth & Community Development Services.

In dollar figures, the total permit construction value in 2021 was $55,681,395.  This represents an increase of $22,132,542 over 2020 figures.

“We’re thrilled to see this type of growth in Loyalist Township during the past year. With new employers establishing in Loyalist - such as the recently announced Latham Pools manufacturing facility – we expect Loyalist Township will continue to be a desirable location for development,” said Loyalist Township Mayor, Ric Bresee.

"This level of growth is confirmation that working, living and developing in Loyalist is better than ever; and we keep working to improve," Bresee added.

This month, Loyalist Township will be introducing the online CityView Portal to improve access to building services. The CityView Portal will provide a convenient and easy way for citizens, contractors, and businesses to apply for permits, request meetings and inspections, view public information, and more online, anytime, from anywhere.
