Loyalist Township, in partnership with Cataraqui Conservation, will be planting approximately 7,700 seedlings as part of Forest Ontario’s 50 Million Tree Program with additional support from the Highway of Heroes (HOH) planting initiative. This initiative will add a total of 7,700 seedlings across 9.6 acres of land across Loyalist Township in the upcoming weeks. The Cataraqui Conservation is administering this program and will complete the planting of seedlings at the following four sites, which were approved at the May 9th Council meeting:

  • Two portions of Township-owned lands located in the north and south of the Violet Waste Disposal Site
  • Behind Bath PS and along the southwest boundary of 241 Church Street, Bath (Bath Park)
  • A 2-acre Township-owned parcel on Bath Road, south of the former Invista site

In 2021, Loyalist Township Council adopted the ResiLienT Loyalist Township Climate Action Plan. The Climate Action Plan contains goals and strategies to reduce corporate and community Greenhouse Gas Emissions. This initiative aligns with Goal #1 of the Climate Action Plan, which involves plantings 20,000 trees in Loyalist Township by 2030. The successful completion of this initiative would contribute to achieving almost 40% of this goal.
