Crossing guards
We have eight crossing guards in Loyalist, near all the elementary schools. Our crossing guards undergo training every year and can be easily identified by their flashing stop sign and hi-viz coat or vest.
Temporary parking ban on Durham Street. Please do not park on Durham Street. School buses must be allowed to safely travel to and from Odessa Public School. Temporary No Parking signs have been installed to mark the no parking area.
Crossing guards in Odessa construction zone
As the school year approaches, our Engineering and Roads staff will work closely with Mulrooney Trucking Limited, our contractor, to continue providing crossing guard services. Mulrooney is progressing well with watermain work on Main Street between West Street and Creighton Drive. Once this work is completed, Mulrooney will return to the intersection of Durham Street and West Street to begin sanitary sewer reconstruction.
At times throughout this fall, the active construction area may conflict with the current school crossing at West Street. In that instance, the crossing will either be shifted slightly east (Crossing 1), or, rarely, may be moved to Potter Drive (Crossing 2). Our crossing guards will have signage in place to help you get to the correct crossing point, whether from West Street or Potter Drive.
We will also provide updates on social media, to both schools, and to our project email list. You can sign up for project emails by visiting the project page.
