ResiLienT Loyalist Township

ResiLienT Loyalist Township Climate Action Plan:

In 2017 Loyalist Township enrolled into the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program, joining over 350 municipalities across Canada that have committed to undertaking local action on climate change. One of the five milestones of the PCP program is a community-built climate action plan. Our community built the ResiLienT Loyalist Township Climate Action Plan, a set of strategies intended to guide community efforts for reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), improve our health, grow our local economy, and increase social equity. In 2021 Council unanimously passed the motion to adopt the ResiLienT Loyalist Township Climate Action Plan to act as a road map for local action and keep climate action as a priority for decisions.

The ResiLienT Loyalist Township Climate Action Plan (please complete our Alternative Document Request Form to request this file in an alternative format) contains goals and strategies for both the Loyalist Township corporate and community reductions. With a corporate GHG reduction target of a 49% reduction in GHG emissions below 2016 levels by 2031 & a community GHG reduction target of 25% below 2017 levels by 2031 was approved by Council in November 2020.

The goals and actions presented in this plan stemmed from engaging with residents, stakeholders, and Township staff alike, and were developed with a commitment to respect taxpayer dollars while maintaining or exceeding existing levels of services. This feedback, combined with research and technical analyses, was used to develop thirty-three goals and actions across six priority sectors.

The Resilient Loyalist Community Champion Recognition is an initiative developed with the goal of recognizing and encouraging exemplary efforts toward climate action. It seeks to acknowledge and honour the outstanding work of individuals, community groups and organizations who are passionately working to make Loyalist Township a more resilient and environmentally conscious community.

The primary purpose of this program is to illuminate the significant work done by individuals, community groups and organizations in promoting and implementing the Resilient Loyalist Township Climate Action Plan.

These community champions:
  1. Exemplify the spirit of sustainability and resilience
  2. Demonstrate leadership in combating climate change
  3. Shape a more sustainable future for Loyalist Township

Recipients of the Resilient Loyalist Community Champion Recognition are selected for their commitment and substantial contributions to climate action in our community. These individuals or organizations are not only honoured with a certificate, but they are also celebrated and promoted across various Township platforms.

Upon receiving the Resilient Loyalist Community Champion Recognition, the work of these climate action leaders is broadcasted through several communications channels. This includes a formal press release, promotional campaigns on social media, and features on the Loyalist Township website. This ensures that their vital contributions are recognized and celebrated throughout the community.

In addition, recipients are invited to a Township Council meeting, where they are publicly awarded a Certificate of Achievement. Their notable achievements are highlighted during the council meeting, showcasing their significant contributions to advancing climate action in Loyalist Township.

In the spirit of community and encouraging more positive climate action, nominations can be made on the Loyalist Township website year-round, with selection happening on an ongoing basis.

Nominations will be reviewed and approved by Township staff. Nominations can be submitted via email
