Energy and Water Conservation Incentives:

On October 21, 2021 Loyalist Township staff hosted an Energy and Water Conservation Incentives webinar, in partnership with Red Squirrel Conservation Services. You can watch a recording of the webinar on the Township's YouTube channel

Loyalist Township offers a $50 credit on water/wastewater bills to assist residents with purchasing a low-flow toilet or high-efficiency faucet to conserve water. You can learn more about the program and how to apply on the Water Conservation Incentive Program webpage.

The Canada Greener Homes Grant is a federal program that reimburses homeowners up to $5,000 for qualifying energy-efficient retrofits. The program also covers up to $600 for the cost of home energy evaluations before and after the retrofits. The program aims to help homeowners save money, create jobs, and fight climate change. Red Squirrel Conservation Services explained how you can qualify in our 2021 webinar

Industrial, Commercial, Institutional and Retrofit Opportunities:

The Save on Energy Retrofit program is designed to help Ontario businesses save energy, reduce costs and increase productivity. This province-wide initiative offers financial incentives for equipment upgrades that reduce facility electricity consumption.

Eligibility Requirements: Retrofit incentives are available to owners or lessees of:

  • Commercial spaces or buildings, such as offices, retail and grocery stores, restaurants, hotels and warehouses

  • Industrial facilities in sectors such as food and beverage, automotive, plastics, steel, mining, paper and chemical industries

  • Institutional buildings, including hospitals, universities, municipal facilities

  • Multi-family buildings, such as apartments (including social housing) or condominiums

  • Agricultural facilities, including dairy, swine and poultry farms, greenhouses and nurseries.

*If you lease, you must have the owner’s consent or authorization to participate.

Projects eligible for the Retrofit program are generally those that provide sustainable, measurable and verifiable reductions in peak electricity demand and electricity consumption.

Examples of eligible projects include:

  • Lighting retrofits

  • Lighting controls

  • HVAC redesign

  • Chiller replacement

  • Variable-speed drive installations

Incentives are available for a variety of products and technologies to continue to help businesses save on energy costs and increase their competitiveness.

See your business in a new light with up to $2,000 in incentives towards eligible energy-efficient lighting upgrades and up to $2,500 for eligible non-lighting equipment.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • All types of businesses with 50 or fewer employees on site at any point in time can participate.

  • Previous participants of the Small Business Lighting Program from 2016 – 2019 are not eligible to participate again.

The Strategic Energy Management (SEM) program is a transformational program designed to help organizations in Ontario improve their energy performance by implementing an integrated system of organizational practices, policies and processes to achieve persistent energy savings. The SEM program can help your organization increase profitability, reduce costs and achieve its carbon reduction and environmental goals.

The Energy Performance Program (EPP) rewards customers who are able to make behavioural and operational changes that support capital investment projects, enabling them to grow their energy savings over a number of years.

Three years of annual pay-for-performance incentives are available for multi-site and single-site facilities for applications approved by December 31, 2024.

  • The program is based on a pay-for-performance model that encourages whole building energy performance improvements, as well as peak demand reduction.

  • Participants have choice and flexibility in implementing capital and non-capital energy-efficiency measures, and are rewarded for energy savings and peak demand savings at the same incentive rate regardless of the types of projects/activities that have been implemented.

  • Participants receive a performance incentive based on electricity savings determined by comparing metered consumption to their baseline energy model. Participants receive $0.04/kWh multiplied by the electricity savings realized with the annual incentive capped at 20 percent of the facility baseline energy use.

  • Participants are also eligible to receive a performance incentive based on summer peak demand savings determined by comparing metered consumption to their baseline energy model. Participants receive $50/kW multiplied by the summer peak demand savings realized with the annual incentive capped at 20 percent of the facility baseline summer peak demand.

Eligibility Requirements: Participants must:

  • Be owners and/or operators of commercial, institutional, or industrial facilities located in Ontario

  • Commit to participate for three years and commit to realize a minimum of five percent energy savings per facility within two years

  • Have a minimum annual consumption of 1,500,000 kWh per facility (or group of up to five buildings aggregated into a single facility baseline energy model)

  • Have 12 months of hourly interval meter data for each facility.
