Stormwater ponds are built to collect rainwater and runoff in the area to prevent flooding. They also reduce the amount of pollutants going into local waterways. Water enters the pond and is held there to allow pollutants to settle as sediment to the bottom of the pond. Water is then slowly released. Vegetation around the pond helps to filter out the sediments.
