Electric Zamboni

Did you know? We've had an electric Zamboni at the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre since 2022. 

An emission-free Zamboni supports the ResiLienT Loyalist Township Climate Action Plan and the Township’s goal to reduce corporate emissions by 49 percent of 2016 levels by 2031:

• Electrifying the municipal fleet while maintaining existing levels of service

• Reduce energy usage in municipal facilities through operations changes and renewal decisions

• Incorporating sustainability into corporate procurement and incorporating environmental impact and lifecycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emission criteria into procurement decisions

An electric Zamboni means significant savings in fuel and maintenance costs. The switch from a fuel to electric resurfacer saves an estimated 19 tons of GHG emissions on an annual basis. Additionally, using electric ice resurfacers is the most effective method for improving and maintaining low levels of air pollution in ice arenas.
