Intercommunity Transit
Introduction
An effective public transit system can be an important component of a connected, livable, and sustainable community. Loyalist Township Council identified improving the public transportation system as a key objective in the 2019 Strategic Plan and has committed to review, assess, and suggest enhancements to the transit system which could benefit the Loyalist Community.
The objective of the proposed intercommunity transit service between the Town of Greater Napanee, Loyalist Township and The City of Kingston is to provide residents with affordable and reliable transportation for those that need to commute to and from work, attend medical and specialist appointments, access essential and non-essential services, and to travel within the communities to visit family and friends.
Grant funding to kick-start a public transportation system is available through Lennox and Addington County for the purposed County Road #2 bus line.
Survey results
From September 2020 until December 2020, Loyalist Township invited residents and stakeholders to complete a Public Transit Survey to identify the transportation needs within the township and to gather community input to inform future decisions.
At the Council Meeting of May 25, 2021, Council received an Improving Public Transportation - Progress Report and directed staff to release the results of the public transportation survey by posting a copy of the results on the Township website.
