Effective at start of day Tuesday, May 19 and continuing until further notice, Route 10 buses will detour away from Sherwood Avenue in Amherstview due to construction.

Temporary alternative stops will be posted for the duration of construction activity.

Conservation Guide for Heritage Properties

The Conservation Guide for Heritage Property Owners provides conservation tips and information for heritage property owners. This includes owners of municipally designated properties and owners of other important heritage sites and features.

Heritage preservation is the responsibility of the community as well as individual property owners who are responsible for maintaining their own designated property with the intention of preserving its historic value for future generations.

If you own a designated heritage property and are looking to make any changes to your property, please contact Loyalist Township to see if a Heritage Permit is required before work begins. Heritage Permits are required for work that might affect or alter designated attributes of a heritage property. Designated attributes are identified in the designating By-law. Building permits may also be required. To help property owners, the Loyalist Township Heritage Committee offers property owners pre-consultation meetings for any projects pertaining to a heritage property.

Windows can be significant heritage attributes that contribute to the cultural heritage value of a heritage resource. They are of critical importance to conserving the integrity of a heritage resource. Windows are considered the “eyes of the house” and are among its most significant visual features. Windows define the character, style and architectural period of a building. If they are replaced with modern fixtures that do not replicate original features, the character, age and authenticity of the building can be lost.

This policy is intended to guide the restoration of windows in both public and private applications for alterations under the Ontario Heritage Act and in providing advice to landowners who need assistance in dealing with window maintenance issues.

Historic Masonry requires maintenance that is quite different than what is normally required for modern masonry. The intent of this policy is to describe common repair requirements and to provide best practices to complete these repairs.
