Light up the Season
Light up the Season is returning to its traditions this year to celebrate 20 years of this beloved community event.
The most cherished memories of the holidays are the traditions we share with our family, friends and neighbours. Twenty years ago, a local community group came up with the idea of decorating two little trees at the Fairfield House, one with white lights and the other with colored. With lots of helping hands this idea grew into Light Up the Season, an event for the entire community to gather together and enjoy an evening of old-fashioned Holiday spirit.
This year, Loyalist Township looked to its heritage for inspiration and is returning Light Up the Season to its roots. The afternoon will include hayrides, cookies and hot chocolate, caroling, a theater performance from the Not So Amateur Amateurs, ornament making to decorate the Community Holiday tree, and a visit from some special Holiday helpers. Trees will be adorned with lights, which will be turned on for the first time on November 26 at Light up the Season and will be lit nightly until February 10.
Guests are encouraged to park at the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre and catch the shuttle which will begin at 2:45pm. Parking at Fairfield Park is limited and will be reserved for accessibility.
In addition to Light up the Season, Loyalist Township has set up Community Holiday Trees at four additional Heritage locations throughout Loyalist Township. Schools, families, and organizations are invited to make decorations and add them to the trees. Trees are on the front steps of the Bath Museum, the Fairfield-Gutzeit House, the Babcock Mill and the Neilson Store Museum and Cultural Centre. We hope residents enjoy visiting these sites throughout December.
Ornament supply kits will be available for pickup at the Municipal office in Odessa, the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre in Amherstview, or alternate arrangements can be made by contacting us.
