 Book an ice rental this March at the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre! Ice can be reserved by calling 613-386-7351, ext. 200.

Ice and skating activities

Loyalist Township offers a variety of Ice & Skating Activities at the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre including public skating, adult/senior skates, shinny, parent & tot skates and more. 

Activity Description
Adult and Senior Skates

Individuals 18 years and older can enjoy a leisure skate. No sports equipment or outside skating aides are permitted during these skates.
Equipment: The use of CSA approved helmets are strongly recommended.

Parent and Tot Skate

This special skating time is for parents and their children (6 years and under) to skate together and have some fun on the ice.
Equipment: Tots must wear a CSA approved helmet.

Public Skate

Participants of all ages can enjoy a leisure skate with friends and family. No sports equipment or outside skating aides are permitted during these skates. Skate Patrol are on the ice during this skate to monitor and provide assistance as required.
Equipment: The use of CSA approved helmets are strongly recommended.

Toonie Skate

Just what it says. You can come skate for two dollars! Remember when you could get a meal at Kentucky Fried Chicken for two dollars on Tuesdays? Those days may be in the past, but you can still skate for two dollars in Loyalist Township on Tuesdays!
This is our traditional public skate but for two dollars.
Equipment: The use of CSA approved helmets are strongly recommended.

Shinny Hockey

A non-contact pickup game of hockey. Shinny is not intended for organized teams. Maximum 24 skaters and two goalies.
Equipment: Full hockey equipment including a CSA approved helmet is required. Full face shield or protective screen is strongly recommended.

Skating and shinny birthday parties

Do you have a birthday coming up? Consider making it a skating or shinny party! Birthday parties are available to be booked during our normally scheduled Public Skates and Youth Shinny opportunities. You can also book the Upper Hallway at the arena to have cake and presents!

  • All parties must be pre-booked through our Clerk over the phone
  • Parties must be booked more than 7 days in advance
  • The party fee is the total drop-in fee for all party goers 
  • The Upper Hallway is available for rental for cake and gifts at a rate of $22.97 + HST and rental insurance
  • Parties during Public Skates are limited to 15 party goers
  • Parties during Youth Shinny are limited to 12 party goers
  • All fees MUST be paid at time of booking
  • If you would like to book the ice for a private party, please contact us.

If your organization or business is interested in sponsoring any skating opportunities for the community, please contact Recreation.

All Public Skating, Parent & Tot Skating, Adult & Senior Skating, and Shinny Hockey at Loyalist Township indoor arenas require you to pre-register for a spot.  All participants who are registered must be actively skating.  Spectators are permitted in the facility during Township skating activities. Residents can register 1 week in advance and non-residents can register 4 days (96 hours) in advance of these scheduled skates.
